School Council PDF Print E-mail

The School Council is a forum that allows the pupils the chance to say what they think about how their school is run. It gives the pupils the opportunity to become more morally and socially responsible, increasing the sense of community across all the school years. The Council is given a budget of £100.00 while it is in office. It is up to the committee to decide how it is spent and whether they wish to raise more funds.

The Members

The School Council members are elected by their peers in Year 6. The positions of responsibility are: President, Secretary, Treasurer and Third Member who is also the Lower School Representative. These positions are held for half the school year. New posts are elected in February.

The Council have a number of responsibilities that they are relied upon to carry out efficiently. They sometimes organise special events such as recently, a talent competition to celebrate Red Nose Day.

Form Leaders and Vice Form Leaders

Every half term each form elects a Form Leader and a Vice Form Leader. This is done as a secret ballot. A pupil can only be a Form Leader once in the year and cannot be a Vice Form Leader in the same year. A Vice Form Leader may however be a Form Leader, if she is voted for by the class. This ensures that a number of pupils have the opportunity to be given this role. The pupils are encouraged to choose a person who is reliable, sensible and has a sense of responsibility.

Form Leaders attend School Council meetings and Vice Form Leaders attend termly Food Council meetings with the Chef.

In the regular lively school meetings, when suggestions from each class are discussed, every girl in the school has the opportunity to have her voice heard, which allows for a greater sense of community.
