Harvest Festival is another highlight of the school calendar. During the week of Harvest Festival children bring in non-perishable items (cans, dried foods, pasta, cereals, etc) and on the morning of Harvest Festival the children bring in perishable items (fresh fruit, bread, vegetables and eggs) as well as flowers and pot plants to add to the display. During the week the children also bring in tins or packets of dog, cat, bird and small animal food which is collected by Blue Cross for distribution to their animal centres. Each child is also asked to bring one polished apple on the day which are then shared out and enjoyed at break time. A freshly baked and glazed harvest loaf is also an important part of the display and together with the apples, is divided among all the children at break time. This is a much-loved and long-held tradition of Harvest Festival.
There is also a special Harvest Festival assembly organised and led by the Learning Enrichment Department
Later in the day contributions are sent to the Fair Share Centre for the Homeless in Shepherd’s Bush and some of the girls with members of staff take contributions to the Nazareth House Nursing Home on Hammersmith Road. The girls give flowers and chocolates to the elderly living in the nursing home – they very much enjoy the opportunity of meeting and speaking with the girls. |
