Pupils achieve high standards and make rapid progress in their learning whilst enjoying what they are taught. Our excellent results and high academic standards are achieved without unnecessary competition and pressure at any stage. We do not have formal examinations or tests; we do not give marks or grades, preferring to mark by remark, either verbal or written (except right at the end of Year 5 and early in Year 6, when pupils need to understand a marking structure in preparation for their external 11+ exams). Even at this stage we never publish form orders or compare children. We try to "educate" not "school" children and to this end we encourage the girls to take some responsibility for their own learning, to take risks and to "have a go" at everything without fear of being wrong. Results in national tests in English, Mathematics and Science at age 7 and 11 are far above national averages for maintained primary schools in England and Wales. The success level in gaining entry and scholarships to boarding and day senior schools is excellent, as you will see from the 11+ results.
