At Bute, we offer an extensive range of clubs during the lunch time and after school. They give the girls an opportunity to develop a talent or discover a new skill. Girls in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have an hour a week on a Wednesday afternoon, devoted to a variety of clubs from which they can choose. The list is wide-ranging and varied and changes termly. Staff are able to share their own interests and enthusiasms with the girls. We offer a wide range of exciting extra-curricular clubs and activities. These change termly and could include chess, bridge, Mandarin, debating and current affairs, art, computers, cookery, poetry, bookmaking, drama, samba drums, pottery, doll's house making, conducting, yoga, glass-painting, weaving, puppet making, Fun with Science, thinking games and sewing.

Physical Education is a key element of our after-school provision. The girls need exercise as a release from sitting in the classroom. They enjoy the freedom of physical exercise and expressing themselves through movement. They love accomplishing new skills and experiencing team competition. The clubs are fun and are as active as possible so that the girls are challenged and enjoy what they are doing.

A wide selection of sports clubs is offered at Bute House and these can include gymnastics, football, cricket, badminton, dance aerobics, tennis, swimming, cross country and athletics. Practices for teams are selective, but there are also many other activities that girls can join whatever their standard, for example gymnastics, ballet, tap dancing, football, badminton, cricket, cross country, swimming, tennis, athletics and dance aerobics.

Team practices are run in netball, tennis, swimming, football, cross country, badminton and gymnastics. There are regular sports fixtures against local schools and Bute also participates in many tournaments at local and national level. Bute House participates in the IAPS netball, swimming, tennis and gymnastic competitions.  In netball we regularly qualify for the national finals and in swimming we have produced national champions.

The clubs give girls opportunities to try new sports and activities to widen their experiences and horizons. The competitive sports and the national competitions give the most talented girls the challenge and opportunity to compete at a high level. All clubs and lessons encourage the learning of new skills, healthy life styles and a love of sport. The emphasis is always on girls taking part in a variety of activities, to work hard, improve their skills and fitness and above all to have fun! If their experiences at Bute are positive ones then they will want to continue their sports out of school so that it becomes an essential part of their lives.

Ballet and Tap are offered by a specialist ballet school that uses our facilities for our pupils each week. Details of how to join these classes are available from the office.
