Support is provided free of charge in Maths and English for children throughout the school by teachers in the Learning Enrichment Department. Different levels of support are offered to those who are finding their classwork a challenge. Some pupils attend sessions outside their classrooms in our specialist facilities, either in small groups or on a one-to-one basis, and support is also given in class lessons to help children access the whole curriculum. Work is planned to address the individual needs of each pupil. The emphasis is very much on a positive approach to enable each pupil to access and participate fully in her lessons. Parents are kept informed of their children's progress and are encouraged actively to support them in achieving the educational targets set. Some girls have the innate ability to be high achievers, but for various reasons do not always reach that potential. These girls and also those who are extremely able and needing extra challenges and extension activities are identified by standardised assessments or the observations and recommendations of their teachers and are catered for in small groups. These groups provide the opportunity for children to undertake open-ended tasks and also teach them strategies for approaching problems, thus enabling the pupils to set themselves targets and challenges and work towards excellence. |
